The MLitt in Spanish and Latin American Studies aims to develop and enhance your knowledge of Hispanic literature, culture and history through textual study and theoretical reflection.
Students will encounter a wide range of research interests and expertise, including in Cervantes; Golden Age poetry; Latin American narrative and essay; modernismo and avant-garde in Spain and Spanish America; gender, cultural memory and theatre censorship in Spain; twentieth and 21st century Spanish poetry; Spanish historical grammar and sociolinguistics; modern and contemporary Catalan culture and literature.
Spanish and Latin American studies may be taken as a single-subject pathway within the MLitt, or you can combine it with one of five other pathways:
- French studies
- German studies
- Italian studies
- Middle Eastern literary and cultural studies (Arabic and Persian)
- Russian studies.
2:1 Honours degree in Spanish or a relevant discipline with a Spanish language proficiency at C1 level on the European Framework or equivalent. Secondary pathway subjects cannot be taken at beginner's level.
