First Year: Is designed to bring together the analytic skills of the computer scientist and the development and design skills of the electronics engineer. Computing and Electronics takes a design-centred approach and focuses on software engineering, digital and electronic design.
Second Year: Understanding in the Design and Implementation of Algorithms for Manipulating Advanced Data Structures is developed, as are advanced principles in Software Engineering and Circuit Analysis.
Third Year: Teamwork, the issues faced by the qualified practitioner, specialist study of computation and information systems, and digital and communication systems are covered.
Fourth Year: Options to be selected from Systems Level Integration; Interconnection Systems; Embedded Systems; Signal Processing; Communications; Real Time Programming Languages; Robotics; Vision/Image Processing; VLSI; Distributed Systems. Includes an industrial placement during the summer.
Fifth Year: Modules covering topics: Systems Level Integration; Interconnection Systems; Embedded Systems; Distributed Systems; Vision/Image Processing and Real-Time Programming; including two compulsory Engineering Management modules and Project Skills Workshops. The project, normally based on industrial placement work, continues throughout the year including dissertation and presentation of project work.
2020 entry requirements:
Standard entry: 4 Highers at AABB including Maths and Engineering Science or Physics plus English at National 5.
Widening access entry: 4 Highers at BBBC including Maths and Engineering Science or Physics plus English at National 5.
For entry to Level 2 you would require Advanced Higher Maths and Physics at BB plus 4 Highers at AABB.
