1st Year: Students gain a good understanding of the fundamental principles of Chemistry, and are introduced to laboratory skills illustrating various experimental techniques. Mathematics and an optional subject are also studied.
2nd Year: Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry lectures, with an emphasis on the relationship between theoretical principles and experimental measurements. Students choose an optional subject.
3rd Year: Students study Chemistry at one of the partner universities in Australia, taking all lectures, tutorials and labs. Students have a local supervisor and are visited by Heriot-Watt chemistry staff. There are no Australian fees to pay.
4th Year: Students study Advanced Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry, together with special topics. BSc (Hons) students undertake a 16-week chemistry research project. MChem students also undertake special practical courses designed to give a deeper understanding of modern analytical practical techniques; these are underpinned with theoretical aspects.
