The course starts in September each year, and students may study full time for 36 weeks, either at The NHC-Thurso or The NHC-Alness. This will include one day per week work place experience.

Throughout the course you will study units including: HIV, healthy eating, psychology and health promotion. As part of the course you will study Higher Care and Higher Care Practice.

Entry Requirements

5 subjects at National 5 including English or another English based subject; or NC Child Health and Social Care or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Interview.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.

Progression Routes

This course is designed to provide you with a qualification suitable for entry to nurse training but may also allow progression to the HNC Social Services, BA Health Studies or BA Child and Youth Studies.
