This course offers students the opportunity to develop skills in network technologies. There is an emphasis on the development of technical skills as well as developing team working, problem solving and communication skills. In addition to SQA certification, there are opportunities to gain industry-recognised vendor certification through Microsoft and CISCO.

In the labs you will have the opportunity to build and configure Local Area Networks and learn how to implement secure servers. You will learn to install and configure network operating systems, how to configure Active Directory, DNS, DHCP. Students will also install and configure virtual environments using VMware. In Year 2 there is a strong emphasis on network security.

Entry Requirements

2 relevant Highers plus 4 subjects at National 5; or Foundation Apprenticeship: IT Hardware and System Support plus 4 subjects at National 5; or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Interview.
