Thinking of becoming a paramedic and need to develop your skills in preparation of university study? This course will aid the development of your skills in communication and decision-making in a variety of situations. Whilst studying a range of subjects, we will provide a basis on which to build your healthcare knowledge.

Study will include human development and care values along with an opportunity to learn about the regulation of the health and social care sector, its history and challenges.

Employability skills, including interview and communication skills will also be developed.

Some of the units studied are:
Human Development and Behaviour; Physiology and Health; Pharmacology: An introduction; Values & Principles of Care; Understanding Mental Health Issues; Introduction to First Aid.

Progression Routes

National 5 English and Maths or Applications of Maths at A or B plus 3 other subjects. Interview and pre-entry task.

Minimum age of 18 at course start date.

You will need to be physically and mentally fit for working at a desk, in front of a computer and standing for periods of time in a laboratory before applying for this course. Memory skills and the ability to adapt quickly to new environments as a necessity. You should also be self-motivated and confident.
