This course is for those wanting to develop practical skills and technical knowledge, for work in the construction industry, in areas such as project management, quantity surveying or architecture.

You will learn architectural skills in Computer Aided Design (CAD), construction technical and management procedures, that will enable you to work cooperatively in a construction environment, such as surveying, groundworks and house construction. Sustainability and low carbon technologies are becoming increasingly important to the sector. You will be able to experience these in-situ, in the College’s own Ecohouse.

The course is classroom-based with practical experience in workshops and though field trips and site visits. It includes:
Domestic Building Services; Construction Technology: Groundworks and Substructure; Construction Technology: Superstructure and Finishes; Computer Aided Drafting: An Introduction; Construction Calculations; Construction Materials: An Introduction; Construction Site Surveying: An Introduction;
Health and Safety in the Construction Industry; Built Environment Project; Drawing for Construction; Mathematics: Craft 1; Construction Project Management: An Introduction.

Entry Requirements

2 subjects at National 5, preferably from English, Maths and science subjects, or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 5. Interview.
