This SVQ Level 2 Professional Cookery (Winter Chef) course is based at the North Highland College UHI's Burghfield House campus in Dornoch. It is also based at the House of Morven, part of the main campus in Thurso which is also home of Flagstones, our training restaurant. The course has been designed to meet the needs of the local hospitality industry, probiding participants with the opportunity to gain an SVQ 2 in Professional Cookery throughout the low season. Therefore, this course is suited to seasonal chefs, or those working reduced hours throughout the winter, who are looking to enhance their skills in the kitchen with a formal qualification. Applicants must have industry experience in order to be able to achieve this qualification.

Added to the practical skills you already have, you will learn more about food production and presentation.

You will learn the basics of professional cookery while working with experienced chefs.

Entry Requirements

2 subjects at National 5 and 3 at National 4, or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 4.

Progression Routes

SVQ Professional Cookery at SCQF Level 6 or HNC Professional Cookery, or employment for instance as a Waiter/Waitress, Chef or Housekeeper.
