Content

This joint degree looks at the changing nature of crime and the social, political, historical and individual forces behind these changes, with specific focus on study and influence of the main disciplines of Christian theology.

Year 1 - CertHE

You will study the following core modules.

The enquiring student; Understanding the social world; Comparative institutions of justice; Introduction to criminological theory

You will also choose two option modules from our range of humanities subjects.

Year 2 - DipHE

You will study the following core modules.

Qualitative research methods; History of crime and punishment; Practical research and analysis skills; Politics of policing

You will also choose two option modules from our range of humanities subjects.

Year 3 - BA

You will study the following core modules.

Advanced social research methods; Psychology of criminal justice; Strange cases: crime literature and the construction of crime

You will also select three of the following four modules:

Gender, crime and justice; Victimology; Understanding violence and crime in sport;
Developing professional practice through placement

Year 4 - BA Hons

Cultural criminology; Globalisation of crime; Restorative justice; The darker side of the internet

You will also complete a dissertation.

A Disclosure Scotland check may be required in order to take part in optional modules in year three.

Entry Requirements

3 Highers at BBC including 2 relevant subjects. HNC Social Science may give you entry to year 2.
