This course is designed for those who are currently employed in a childcare setting. It will provide the theoretical knowledge and practical skills you require to work as a Childcare Support Worker

This is a vocational qualification and you will be assessed by a portfolio of evidence measured against national standards of competency. As much of the evidence for the portfolio is generated in the workplace you will be assigned an individual assessor who will observe your work practice and support you throughout this qualification.

This course is accepted for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

Topics relevant to working with children and young people, including:

Child Protection, Legislation, Observations, Child Development,
Play Opportunities, maintain environments to support the needs of children, You will learn how to become a reflective practitioner

Entry Requirements

4 subjects at National 5 including English; or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 5. Interview and written test. You must be currently employed as a Support Worker in an early learning or childcare setting and have the support of your manager.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
