These qualifications have been developed to provide those with an interest in working in the construction industry with the knowledge required to ensure that new builds and retrofitted buildings are carried out with suitable environmentally sympathetic equipment, and offer their customers advice on energy consumption and selection of the most appropriate equipment.

The qualifications have been developed to provide competently qualified operatives, supervisors and site managers undertaking new builds or the retrofitting of domestic homes with the additional knowledge required to fit sustainable equipment.

Delivery of the following units from the Diploma in Sustainable Construction award will give you the knowledge and skills required to progress in either further academic studies or in a related construction career.

Mandatory units are: -

Waste and Waste Management; Energy in Buildings; Water Use and Harvesting; Airtight Technologies

Optional units may include some of the following: -
Environmental Impact of Buildings; Materials and Products; Low Carbon Techniques and Technologies; Sustainable Building Standards, Regulations and Methodologies; Solar Thermal Technologies; Heat Pump Technologies

Entry Requirements

3 subjects at National 5 including 1 from English, Maths, Computing Science or a science subject. Interview and pre-entry test.

Progression Routes

HNC Built Environment course or employment.
