This course will give the student a wide knowledge of the theory surrounding the many topic areas found within horticultural practice. In support of that theoretical learning, the course will have a strong practical element allowing students to experience a wide range of horticultural disciplines.
Areas to be studied will include: Soils and growing media; Plant identification; Plant husbandry – common disorders; Basic botany; Garden design; Planting and maintenance; Horticultural machinery – operation and maintenance; Plant nutrition; Plant production from seed; Garden design; Home and allotment gardening; Drystone dykes – building and repairing; Soft landscaping – general plantings; Vegetative propagation.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course, but you should have a keen interest in practical horticulture.
