City Campus
This course is the first stage you need to complete if you are following the traditional route into secondary education. It covers the Initial Teacher Education phase of your career. When followed by a successful induction year working within a school (Teaching Induction Scheme), you will be qualified to teach Home Economics throughout Scotland.
Through two on-campus study modules combined with three school placements, you will gain vital classroom skills and experience. You will explore aspects of theory for teaching Home Economics to children and young adults. We will also teach you how to effectively support literacy, numeracy, health and well-being.
Small class sizes mean you will benefit from a strong supportive community of staff and students. You will receive individual support throughout the course from an allocated tutor, who will also visit and assess you on each of your placements. Additionally you will be allocated a mentor from within the schools you are working in.
You must have a degree containing 80 SCQF credit points of maths related subjects such as Algebra, Analysis, Calculus, Geometry, Statistics, Differential Equations or Probability. 40 of the credit points must have been studied at SCQF Level 8 or above. You must also have Higher English plus Maths or Applications of Maths at National 5.
You would require a satisfactory PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check to show you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details.
The programme (accredited by the GTC for Scotland) prepares graduates to teach Mathematics in secondary schools.
