With this route into teaching you can study while receiving over £22,500 (gross) in financial support over the duration of the programme.

Running from January to January, it brings together the first two steps in your career as a teacher, the initial teacher education programme and the Teacher Induction Scheme, and you will be fully registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), allowing you to teach pupils of secondary age in your subject specialism (Home Economics) in Scottish schools.

Entry Requirements

You must have a degree containing 80 SCQF credit points from at least two of: consumer studies; food studies; food or textile technology; nutrition. A further 40 credits are needed in any home economics area relevant to the home economics curriculum in Scottish schools. 40 of the credit points must have been studied at SCQF Level 8 or above. You must also have Higher English plus Maths or Applications of Maths at National 5.

You would require a satisfactory PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check to show you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details.

Progression Routes

The programme (accredited by the GTC for Scotland) prepares graduates to teach Home Economics in secondary schools.
