This is a three-year training programme aimed at providing the necessary training and qualifications for employment as an Engineering Officer of the Watch. There are a number of elements to the programme and also a compulsory sea time requirement.

The programme is structured into 5 phases:
Phase 1 - College phase where you will complete an NC in Shipping and Maritime Operations, compulsory STCW short courses, MCA workshop skills and industrial experience.
•Phase 2 - Sea phase where you will start your MNTB training record book in addition to a work-based learning course and a distance learning maths course.
•Phase 3 - College phase where you will complete an HNC in Marine Engineering, STCW short courses, MCA workshop skills and industrial experience.
•Phase 4 - Sea phase where you will complete your MNTB training record book.
•Phase 5 - College phase where you will prepare for your IAMI engineering knowledge examination, MCA Oral Examination and complete your final STCW short courses.
4 subjects at National 5 including English, Maths and Chemistry, Engineering Science or Physics; or Access to the Maritime Industry. Interview.
You must have a sponsoring company in order to fulfil the sea time requirement of this programme.
This course prepares you for a career at sea in the Merchant Navy and in a number of different sectors such as offshore, cruise ships, oil tankers, LNG and chemical tankers.
