This qualification is designed to provide trainees with the knowledge and practical skills to become a technician or supervisor within the Production Horticulture sector which includes garden centres, plant nurseries, soft fruit and general crop production.

A range of topics will be covered during the course including how to promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security, estimate resource requirements and programme work, manage own resources, monitor and control growth of plants, co-ordinate the provision of water to crops or plants, co-ordinate the provision of nutrients to crops or plants, identify and name plants using
their botanical names, and co-ordinate the control of pests ,diseases and disorders. Additional specific units will focus on the co-ordination of growing crops and plants from seed to harvest and finally to sale and dispatch.

Entry Requirements

SVQ Production Horticulture at SCQF Level 5; or other relevant national qualifications; National 5 English and Maths
