Introduction to Hairdressing - Session 2

This qualification has been specifically designed to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to prepare learners for employment as a junior hairdresser/salon assistant.

Learners will have their hairdressing skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.

This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior hairdresser including: health and safety; shampoo and conditioning hair; blow drying hair; the research unit - working in the hair industry; basic cutting women's hair; basic colour techniques and the art of dressing hair.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must be aged 16 or over at the start of the course and have achieved National 4/3 qualifications. Industry experience or other qualifications will be considered. For applicants where English is not their first language then ESOL at National 5 is required.

Entry is based on a group information session, a skills test and an individual interview. A satisfactory reference is required.

Progression Routes

VTCT Year 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing (in college); VTCT Level 2 in Barbering (in college); VTCT Level 2 in Beauty Therapy; Undertake an MA in Hairdressing (industry); Undertake an MA in Barbering (industry); Employment within the hairdressing industry at junior/salon assistant level; Employment within the barbering industry at a junior/salon assistant level.
