Content

Working closely with local and national news organisations, you will carry out a highly practical, hands-on approach to create engaging journalistic content.

Analysis of local, national, and international news; writing, research, interviewing; news and magazine production, desk-top publishing; recording and editing sound and video; print, web, mobile and multi-platform content generation; all of these skills can be regarded as essential for the modern journalist. This demanding course is designed to equip you with these essential skills and prepare you for industry or Higher Education.

You will study: News and feature writing; Research and interview skills; Law for journalists; Public affairs; Shorthand (60wpm); Sub-editing; Video journalism.

Entry Requirements

2 Highers including English, Media or Modern Studies; or NC Creative Industries: Broadcast Media; or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Entry subject to interview and portfolio of work.

Progression Routes

Degree level study. This course provides a progression route to the University of Sunderland for entry to their BA (Hons) Magazine Journalism or BA (Hons) Journalism courses as well as other colleges and universities in Scotland for further study.
