Hairdressing (Level 5)

This course has been designed to help you develop the basic skills with a view to operating as a hairdresser. It’s assessed under workplace conditions and offers a strong practical element.

Core units include: Applying practical skill; selling skills; shampooing; conditioning and scalp massage; blow drying techniques; setting and winding techniques; ladies hairdressing; basic cutting; mix, apply and remove hair colour.

Option units (selected by the college) include: Current techniques in long hair (basic); reception duties and skills; postiche application; styling: an introduction; setting and styling techniques for media; hair, beauty and make-up: portfolio; hair, beauty and make-up: competition technical skills; bridal and evening make-up; facial skincare; day make-up, basic corrective make-up; face painting.

Entry Requirements

2 subjects at National 4; or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 4. You also need excellent communication skills. You must be 16 years old at the start of the course. Entry is based on successful interview and skills test.
