This course is an introductory route into counselling as a profession or indeed to enhance valuable skills for work in a care setting. This course is suitable for those who have limited or no previous experience of counselling.
The course is an introduction to the main approaches used in counselling. It does not in any way permit those who have achieved the course to refer to themselves as qualified counsellors.
The course will include:
Counselling Skills; Understanding Mental Health; Understanding Loss and Grief; Counselling Awareness.
As well as Human Development and Social Influences.
2 subjects at National 5 or Higher, English and a social science subject preferred; or Foundation Apprenticeship Social Services and Healthcare. Work experience (paid or unpaid) of counselling or care is advantageous.
You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
