This Professional Development Award gives you specific knowledge of issues associated with children and young people in educational settings, including Additional Support Needs (ASN) across a broad spectrum of specific needs and disabilities.
You’ll spend 2 days in college and 1 day in placement in a primary school, although the course is also available as a ‘Blended Learning Twilight Course’ for those already working as Classroom Assistants.
5 relevant subjects at National 5 including English and preferably Maths, or a relevant NC course at SCQF Level 5 such as Early Learning and Childcare (Level 5). Entry subject to interview.
You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
Progression on to a relevant HNC such as HNC Childhood Practice, or employment.
