The HND builds on the HNC, fully preparing you to enter childhood practice with in depth knowledge and understanding of professional accountability relevant to the practitioner role and responsibility to children and families. You’ll develop critical reflection skills required for the complex nature of this profession, exploring the Standards for Childhood Practice and other related legislation and policy to build your confidence and employability.

Each week you’ll spend 2 days in college and 2 days on a placement in an early years setting or primary school, working with the staff team.

Entry Requirements

HNC Childhood Practice or other relevant HNC. Entry subject to interview.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.

Progression Routes

Employment or progression to year 3 of the BA Childhood Studies at the University of the West of Scotland.
