Designed to develop understanding in a wide range of biological and molecular topics such as: stem cells; differentiation in somatic and germline cells; the research and therapeutic value of stem cells; structure and replication of DNA; gene expression; metabolic pathways; cellular respiration; the transmission and control of infectious diseases; and human reproduction. Through these topics learners will develop scientific research skills, analytical and evaluation skills and will be able to apply these skills through scientific communication.

Entry Requirements

National 5 in a Biology subject. Interview and diagnostic test.

Progression Routes

An alternative to Higher Biology for those seeking a qualification to enable access to HNC applied sciences/HND applied biological sciences course or undergraduate programmes at university. This Higher would also be useful for those seeking employment in the life sciences and health disciplines.
