This is a 12 credit award with most of the units applied to work experience and placements. If you are a full-time student, placements will be arranged by the College to ensure that you can be supported in the application of theory and gain experience to evidence competency in the three work-based SVQ units integral to the course.

This course meets the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) requirements for registration for a variety of posts in health and social care sector. For those working in or considering a career in residential child care this, plus five other SVQ units, meets requirements (due to change soon).

You will study: Care in contemporary society; Lifespan development; Care practice; Health and wellbeing; Graded unit; Three SVQ units at SCQF Level 7; Optional units.

Entry Requirements

2 Highers; or Foundation Apprenticeship Social Services and Healthcare or Children and Young People plus Higher English at A or B; or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Entry subject to interview.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
