Sharpen your people skills and join an expanding workforce as you take your first step towards a rewarding career as a tour guide. This is an introductory course that will allow you to develop the necessary skills and knowledge you will need to become an effective tour guide. This is an evening class and you will take part in practical simulations at various sites in Edinburgh and gain hands-on and practical experience of the tourism sector. There will be an opportunity for job shadowing where you will make essential industry connections. You will be taught by the best in the business and learn the basics of tour guiding; from the history of Scotland to how to plan an event as well as crowd control.

Units include:
Scotland and Edinburgh product knowledge; People and group management; Customer care; Logistics and problem solving; Itineraries and time management; Accidents and reporting (health and safety); Presentation skills; Job shadowing; Practical tour guiding skills/on-site skills.

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements. Experience in a customer facing role. A foreign language would be an advantage.
