Content

This course covers the age range of 0-18 years and includes a wide variety of topics. Learning how to provide assistance to children and young people with additional support needs, and developing your professional practice are key elements of this award.

The course also includes learning how to promote positive behaviour and support children and young people’s holistic development; training in first aid; infection control; and moving and handling.

Work placement experience is an essential part of this course and this will enable you to plan, implement and evaluate a range of activities in an educational setting.

Entry Requirements

You should have a relevant national qualification at SCQF Level 5. Selection by interview.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.

Progression Routes

The course is run in partnership with Dundee City Council Education Department and leads to a qualification as a Classroom or Support for Learning Assistant and to potential employment.
