This course will support you to gain skills, knowledge and experience to progress into a career as a Learning and Care Assistant, supporting children and young people with additional support needs. You will develop strategies to promote positive behaviour, supporting children and young people's holistic development.

You will study topics such as: First Aid, Infection Control, Moving & Handling and Supporting Children in an Educational Setting. You will undertake a work placement which will support you to plan, implement and evaluate a range of activities in an educational setting, these are in primary, secondary or enhanced settings. This is a partnership programme with Dundee City Council.

Entry Requirements

3 subjects at National 5; or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 5. Selection by interview.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.

Progression Routes

The course is run in partnership with Dundee City Council Education Department and leads to a qualification as a Classroom or Support for Learning Assistant and to potential employment.
