This course offers a good mix of practical work and theory to introduce you to the skills and knowledge you’ll need for further study or employment.

You will: learn about electrical principles and basic electrical concepts; focus on direct current (dc) power supplies; look at earthing and the different methods of earth fault current protection; develop skills in using electrical test equipment; develop your practical skills in electrical wiring; look at the key devices used in electronics; explore combinational logic; study maths in an engineering context.

Entry Requirements

4 subjects at National 5 including Maths or Physics; or SVQ Performing Engineering Operations - Electrical at SCQF Level 5; or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 5. Entry subject to interview.

Progression Routes

Progression to a relevant HNC or Modern Apprenticeship.
