This programme is mainly motivated by the growing importance of big data. International Data Corporation (IDC: a market research firm) forecasted that the Big Data technology market will grow at a 26.4% CAGR (compound annual growth rate) to £28.79 billion by 2018 – approximately six times the growth rate of the overall information technology market; with 30% organizations collecting big data and/or the market of data driven services.
The MSc Big Data forms part of the Advanced Computing framework at UWS and is a postgraduate course of study focusing on teaching advance topics of the data science. It is designed to develop practical skills by providing a comprehensive understanding of fundamental knowledge and hands-on experience of big data technologies within industry and academia.
You will normally possess an appropriate undergraduate qualification: Honours Degree (2.2 or above) in Computing/ Engineering (or relevant disciplines) from a UK academic institute or an equivalent 4-year international degree qualification.
