This qualification is based on the barbering National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's leading Barbering Association (British Barbering Association – BBA) and professional hairdressing body (The Hairdressing Council) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a junior men's hairdresser.

Content includes:

Health and safety; client consultation; shampoo and conditioning hair; research unit - working in the hair industry; basic cutting (including facial hair) and styling men's hair; promoting products and services to clients.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must be aged 16 or over at the start of the course and have achieved National 4/5 qualifications. Industry experience or other qualifications will be considered. For applicants where English is not their first language then ESOL at National 5 is required.

Entry is based on a group information session, a skills test and an individual interview. A satisfactory reference is required.

Progression Routes

VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Barbering or employment.
