Subjects include: sports coaching theory and practice, conduct and ethics, principles of fitness, fitness testing, anatomy and physiology, coaching of sports, sports development, working with children and workplace experience.

Students have the opportunity to visit and participate in a variety of sporting events and festivals and gain additional sports and fitness qualifications such as UKCC/NGB awards, Level 2 Fitness Instructor, NPLQ, Level 3 Personal Training and First Aid. Students also have the opportunity to specialise in outdoor activities by comĀ­pleting units in foundation, safe practices and managing/organising outdoor activities.

Students are involved in coaching and developing sport working with a number of external organisations and events

Entry Requirements

Relevant Highers. Or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. You must attend for interview and plan a coaching session.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.

Progression Routes

Degree programme at university. The developed coaching skills and experience gained from this programme will provide you with genuine employment opportunities within private and/or public sports centres as Sports Coaches, Sports Development Officers, Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers.
