This course is for those wanting to wish to pursue a career in mechanical engineering at technician or engineer level. It can take you into mechanical engineering-related positions, the HND in mechanical engineering and then on to year three at university. It gives a firm grounding in mechanical engineering subjects, and includes practical content.

The course includes:

Engineering principles; Materials selection; Dynamics, pneumatics and hydraulics; Thermofluids; Quality management; Engineering mathematics; Statics and strength of materials.

Entry Requirements

Higher Physics or a technological subject plus National 5 Maths, or relevant Foundation Apprenticeship, or NC Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Interview and pre-entry test.

Progression Routes

Successful candidates may have the opportunity to progress to Edinburgh Napier University, direct entry into year 2 of BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering.
