Content

This course will give you a good foundation for becoming a skilled tradesperson. As you might expect, you’ll do loads of practical work, including painting, wallpapering, plastering and tiling. You’ll also do a bit of theory and will find out what you need to know to work successfully in the construction industry.

Content includes:
Preparing and painting different surfaces; decorative treatments; brush effects and paint designs using free brushwork techniques; paperhanging; preparing surfaces properly; mixing and applying paste; producing plumb lines, and cutting and hanging plain wallpapers; join textured and patterned papers on walls and ceilings; colour theories; plastering; and wall and floor tiling.

Entry Requirements

3 relevant subjects at National 4, Painting and Decorating (City and Guilds) Certificate or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 4. Entry subject to interview.

Progression Routes

Painting and Decorating (City and Guilds) Diploma or an apprenticeship.
