Ayr Campus
This course will really get you work-ready, giving you the skills and knowledge you need for an apprenticeship in site carpentry. By now, you’ll already be pretty good, but you’re going to get even better, learning highly skilled techniques.
You’ll develop the full range of skills needed for constructing a house or commercial building from top to bottom, and everything else in between.
You will: learn about different types of roofing structures and how to construct a traditional ‘cut’ roof; learn how to lay floor joists, create hatches and fix different joist coverings; develop skills in fixing and fitting stairs, mouldings, encasements and kitchens; learn to install all types of doors; explore how to organise, plan and price jobs.
Bench Joinery (City and Guilds) Diploma, or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 5. Entry is subject to interview and possibly a skills test.
